A City & A Basin

The cardamom growers of Sakleshpur part of the Western Ghats of India were divided about allowing a hydroelectric project proposed in their pristine region -- the Gundia river basin. It is one of the very few irreplaceable biodiversity hotspots still remaining in all of the Western Ghats.

We made A City & A Basin in 2011-12 and held a screening campaign in the local villages. The campaign helped mobilize the stakeholder villagers to stand to protect their environment.

The power corporation shelved the project yielding to the mass movement of the local community.

Puttannaiah of Raitha Sangha
